The 8th Asia Primate Symposium Kicks Off in Vietnam, Highlighting Regional Conservation Efforts

November 14th, 2022, marked the official opening of the 8th Asia Primate Symposium at the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF). For the first time in history, Vietnam is hosting this prestigious event, organized in partnership with the Three Monkeys Wildlife Conservancy under the authorization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

A Platform for Knowledge Exchange and Global Collaboration

The symposium has attracted over 200 participants, including leading scientists, managers, and experts from 20 countries, such as Germany, France, the UK, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.

The Asia Primate Symposium serves as a catalyst for fostering collaboration among primate experts, offering a chance to share research findings, and discuss strategies to improve conservation systems in Vietnam and beyond. By uniting experts from across the globe, the event is expected to spark innovative solutions and partnerships aimed at reversing the alarming decline of primate species.

The participation of leading scientists and conservationists signals a renewed sense of urgency and hope. The symposium is a step towards preserving not only Vietnam’s unique primate diversity but also the rich ecosystems they inhabit. It’s a vital reminder of the collective responsibility to protect these remarkable creatures from extinction.

The symposium includes several high-level discussions led by experts from the Three Monkeys Wildlife Conservancy, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and other prominent organizations. Topics will cover the urgent need for primate protection in Vietnam and across Asia, as well as broader conservation efforts for wild species.

In addition to the scientific discussions, the symposium featured an exhibition showcasing photos, paintings, and publications that highlight the rich primate diversity of Asia, with a special focus on Vietnam. The exhibition is a visual celebration of the region’s wildlife and serves as a reminder of the importance of conservation efforts.
